Both living in East Manchester and an exceptional level of personal laziness have contributed to me never having visited Teatime Collective before now, even though it opened back in late 2013.
Teatime Collective is a now (I think!) 100% vegan cafe and ice cream parlour also offering custom-made bakes, and event catering. I was dead set on stuffing the biggest burger possible down my mouth hole after seeing some other reviews online, so that’s exactly what I did.
The cafe itself is in a slightly faffy location if you’re travelling via Manchester City Centre. It’s around 1.3 miles from Piccadilly Gardens and around a 20-25 min walk, or you can hop on either the 250, 256 or 263 if you’re lazy (like me). You’ll want to jump off on Stretford Road, just next to Hulme Park, and then walk across the park to find the cafe.
HOWEVER. I would suggest that the menu makes it worth a trip. There aren’t many fully vegan menus quite this exciting in Manchester and with so much variety on offer. My lovely pal Vicki went for a taco trio (with jackfruit and coconut bacon, among other delights) and I went for a ruddy big tex-mex burger.
My burger was huge and tasty as all heck. You guyz, it had molten cheeze lava INSIDE IT. Inside THE BURGER.
The cafe offers various ice cream flavours but we were both entranced by the 3 different kinds of cake available. We went for some kind of joyous chocolate/caramel/hazelnut confection. I can’t remember its formal title. I was in a cake reverie.
I took pity on poor C, who was back at home keeping my wonderful little poochums entertained, and grabbed a slice to take away. I even managed to NOT EAT IT on the way home. Actually, I confess to being so stuffed I literally couldn’t eat another thing that day, which is very unusual for me. Really VERY unusual.
After the gargantuan effort of trotting out for lunch and then doing some Saturday-in-Manchester-City-Centre shopping, Sunday was mostly spent draped over the settee trying to muster energy enough to make tea/visit the bathroom/etc. Lord help me, if my recent blood test shows my B12 levels are now ship-shape and back to normal then it’ll be time to admit I am just more lazy than I ever thought possible :/
In any case, I did manage to get some embroidery done and even made a ruddy big pie for dinner. I’ve been nicking designs out of a lovely Scandinavian Needlecraft book I got for Christmas, and I had a go at a cheap plain pillowcase yesterday….
Not too shabby, I feel! That yellow is a regret, though. Far too pale, woe 🙁 But I’ll try try again of course and hopefully knock up some nice gifts soon.
I hope you all had a super weekend and aren’t too depressed that Monday has arrived again so soon. It’s pretty gloomy here in Manchester I have to say. Come on springtime, I want to ride my bike!
