Ahoy, hello! My name is Jenny. I am a thirty-something human female from Manchester in the north of England. I enjoy rainy days and sad songs, custard donuts and salt & pepper chips and beer, lentil dhal and fried okra, X-Files and Twin Peaks, fierce fat heroines and mental health advocates, dogs and cats and otters and a very special beirdo. To paraphrase Sylvia Plath: "I blog because there is a voice within me that insists on writing lots of ridiculous chuff".

Happy September 2021 friends. Flipping heck it’s been a while!! Call Fox Mulder because that is some serious lost time on my behalf. I have no explanation whatsoever. The blogging mojo just upped and left me completely. But I revisited my blog recently and I wanted to post a wee update in the form of a photo diary, taking me from autumn 2020 through summer 2021 and now easing back into autumn again. Life is just the same and also completely different. I turned 40! I sewed more York Pinafores! I got double vaccinated! I went on walks! I embroidered! I was gifted new artwork! Lots of random moments from life are below.

I think part of the reason I haven’t blogged so much is that I am now on a medication for my diabetes that I’m unlucky enough to experience very intense side effects with (though at this point they are just EFFECTS for me). I experience a lot of nausea and a lack of appetite (as well as other unpleasant gastrointestinal symptoms…) and my tastes have completely changed – I never know what I want to cook anymore! So there hasn’t been much vegan cooking to document. I’ve been on these meds for maybe a year now and it’s settled slightly now I’ve been moved to a slow-release type, but I’m still grappling with cooking and eating at home. My fridge is mostly full of plain yoghurt, diet caffeine-free coke, and tofu. It could be worse I guess!!

Anyhow. It’s nice to have a blog with memories and wotnot, so I will add a few more here, and I do hope that you are all well during these very unsettling times, friends <3

  1. Hi Jenny
Lovely to hear from you again – and to see what your life has evolved around!
I can totally understand that you took a break for blogging, especially after experiencing those effects from your diabetes medicine.
I also lost my blogging mojo this past yeat, but have recently picked it up again… as you write: it’s nice to have some memories 🙂
