Some Food, Some Writing

Some Food, Some Writing Posted on March 12, 20172 Comments
Ahoy, hello! My name is Jenny. I am a thirty-something human female from Manchester in the north of England. I enjoy rainy days and sad songs, custard donuts and salt & pepper chips and beer, lentil dhal and fried okra, X-Files and Twin Peaks, fierce fat heroines and mental health advocates, dogs and cats and otters and a very special beirdo. To paraphrase Sylvia Plath: "I blog because there is a voice within me that insists on writing lots of ridiculous chuff".

Dearest Readers,

Life has been plodding on lately, with work keeping me busy, as well as adjusting to new living arrangements and dealing with a canine problem-child. My energy has been lacking, though I’ve been (doing precisely what I shouldn’t and) pushing myself physically nonetheless. I think I’ll give myself a wee break this week, and take ‘er easy.

But how about some tasty vegan eats? Below we see a much-appreciated vegan selection available at Velbekomme in Chorlton. At the moment, only the savoury offerings have a vegan option, but I spoke with the super lovely folks behind the counter who assured me they were working on creating the perfect vegan-friendly Scandi desserts. Yes please!

This was doubly tremendous in that it served as a little preview for a trip to Copenhagen I am taking in October, accompanied by my lovely new beau. We thought we’d make an adventure of going to see Nick Cave, and you’d better believe I’m already filling up a Google map with vegan food destinations OF COURSE.

But what else? Well, I’ve been tapping away on my keyboard a fair old bit lately and have had a couple of wee pieces accepted for publication by the very splendid Femsplain. They’ve already published a piece I wrote about invisible illness, and will soon publish a piece about being a fat vegan.

Femsplain also have a lovely side project called Aloe, which is focused on physical and mental health and wellbeing, and self care. Aloe recently accepted me as a blogger/contributer so I’m excited about being a part of such a great initiative. They just produced a sweet little self-care printable which is available on a pay-what-you-can basis.

What other news? Oh, I dyed my hair a different colour for the first time in 10 years!! I don’t know quite what came over me, readers, but all I know is that suddenly I absolutely needed to have black hair, and so it was.

That about wraps it all up for now, friends, as life has been busy but rather exhausting lately and so I don’t have much to report. On Friday, we’re off to London for a weekend of sightseeing and eating ALL THE CAKE. It’ll be swell to see Jojo aka Vegan In Brighton there, and to spend a little time away from it all.

Wishing you all a wonderful week to come, my blog chums!

  1. That looks like a great vegan dinner out at Velbekomme – though no dessert? I’m shaking a little just thinking about it. I hope you got your Scandi cake fix somewhere along the line. Your pooch may be a hellhound, but definitely a cute one! Interesting piece on CFS too.

    1. Thank you! Yes, Vulpe is adorable but definitely a bit feral…. We get by on the overall 🙂

I’ve seen that Velbekomme have been experimenting with aquafaba which is very exciting indeed! I’ll definitely pop along when they’ve got some nice vegan creations for me to sample, for sure.
