Old lady vegan skincare w/ Biomed Organics!

Old lady vegan skincare w/ Biomed Organics! Posted on 12/08/2019Leave a comment
Ahoy, hello! My name is Jenny. I am a thirty-something human female from Manchester in the north of England. I enjoy rainy days and sad songs, custard donuts and salt & pepper chips and beer, lentil dhal and fried okra, X-Files and Twin Peaks, fierce fat heroines and mental health advocates, dogs and cats and otters and a very special beirdo. To paraphrase Sylvia Plath: "I blog because there is a voice within me that insists on writing lots of ridiculous chuff".

Friends! As veganism gains in popularity, so ages the skin of vegans the world over, many of whom quite enjoy indulging in a quality skincare routine and vainly (lol) battling the relentless ravages of time. Consequently, the demand is increasing for vegan-friendly anti-ageing skin products (for better or worse), and I’m gleefully hunting it out wherever I can as I despair over the gaping chasm between how youthful (immature) I feel and how much my eye bags sag….

I received these products in exchange for writing a review on the blog, however, all the thoughts and opinions expressed in this blog post are 100% mine.

I inherited the skincare routine ethic from my Mum, who seemed to age backwards after the mid-1980s. At 38 I’m often told I’m still baby-faced, but I’ll include a recent picture of my mug at the end of this blog post and you can decide for yourself.

Recently, the generous folks at Biomed Organics contacted me and asked whether I’d like to give any of their products a try. Biomed’s products are all vegan, cruelty-free, and do not contain parabens, synthetic perfumes, micro-plastics, or phenoxyethanol. They also have a number of products in their Forget Your Age range which I (being perilously close to middle-age) was particularly interested in sampling. I decided to try out the serum, face cream, and eye mask.

Biomed was launched back in 2010 and its goal was to create a quality, primarily ‘natural’ skincare range with a sleek, modern design and appeal. The products are dermatologically tested (not on animals!) and all are suitable for sensitive skin, though there is also a dedicated sensitive skin range. I’ve been using the Forget Your Age serum and cream, along with the eye mask, for about five weeks now and I’m here to let you know how I got on.

I’ve been using these products every night before bed in place of my usual bedtime application of a face oil. Each has been wonderful and my skin’s been very happy indeed, with no adverse reaction at all (which can happen when I switch from one set of products to another). It’s possible I may be fooling only myself, but I will say that I wasn’t permitted to buy two bottles of red wine until I showed some identification recently. I was also wearing a pinafore (my toddler attire) but nevertheless, I was impressed.

I think I’d need longer than 5-6 weeks to reliably say whether anything magical is happening with my stem cells, fibroblasts, or collagen, but I can say that my skin has been bright and smooth and happy. For me, anti-ageing products are more of a curiosity at the moment, and probably more a reflection of my horror at my advancing years than anything too cosmetic. Whilst I’m fully prepared to grow old disgracefully, I’m absolutely thrilled that vegan-friendly skincare is more widely available for those who do choose to battle the wrinkles. So, would you like to see my 38-year-old face?

My complaint about the Biomed range is limited only to this: the sleek and stylish packaging is delightful but it does involve a lot of plastic, which is slightly disappointing in a range so concerned with natural ingredients and avoiding harsh chemicals and micro-plastics. I would be really super extra excited to see Biomed explore more sustainable and/or recyclable packaging!

If you’d like to check out the Biomed range then you can order through their website using code BLOGJENNY for a very generous 30% off. Thanks, Biomed!
