My New Place! + DIYs + vegan candles from Newshome 🕯 Posted on 07/07/20191 Comment
Ahoy, hello! My name is Jenny. I am a thirty-something human female from Manchester in the north of England. I enjoy rainy days and sad songs, custard donuts and salt & pepper chips and beer, lentil dhal and fried okra, X-Files and Twin Peaks, fierce fat heroines and mental health advocates, dogs and cats and otters and a very special beirdo. To paraphrase Sylvia Plath: "I blog because there is a voice within me that insists on writing lots of ridiculous chuff".

Ahoy-hoy my friends, this post has been quite some time coming. I’ve been settling into my lovely new apartment and settling back into my work routine. I’ve enjoyed nesting and re-potting plants and mixing up new salad dressings. Vulpe has adjusted wonderfully to her new walker and has even (mostly) been behaving herself ❤️

I was very happy to be contacted by Newshome Candles shortly after I moved in, asking if I’d like to try out one of their vegan-friendly soy wax candles, hand poured over in Yorkshire. Because I am an old lady I went straight for the lavender, and it really does smell a delight! I feel like candles are one of those purchases where you really get what you pay for – like umbrellas and undies and socks. Newshome even regularly test their burn times so you know exactly what you’re getting. If you want a candle to burn down nicely and fill the room with a delightful essential oil scent then it’s worth getting yourself a quality candle, by god. Check out the Newshome candle selection here!

I received this product in exchange for writing a review on the blog, however, all the thoughts and opinions expressed in this blog post are 100% mine.

My new apartment was very much a blank canvas on move-in, which was exactly what I was hoping for. It was minimally furnished and I had a few wee items of furniture to bring with me, but the remainder of the furnishing was either via IKEA or second-hand/DIY. In particular, I picked up a plant stand from a charity shop for £5 and an IKEA end-table off Gumtree for £15. A wee bit of sanding and spray painting later… The gold-framed mirror in my bedroom was also a very lucky £10 charity shop find.

We live not too far from Salford Quays now, just outside of the city centre. A large part of the quays is dedicated to office buildings so it’s lovely and quiet on the weekend, which is great when you have a reactive doggo. It’s also lovely and peaceful down by the water.

It really does make all the difference in the world to have a safe haven, just the two of us. An environment we control, one that’s calm and peaceful and just for Vulpe and me. I’m working on establishing a routine that allows me to take care of my health. I’ve been experimenting with diabetes-friendly recipes and my blood sugar levels are improving every week. Hopefully I can share some good stuff during Vegan MoFo this year 💚

And don’t forget to treat yourself to a delightful Yorkshire-poured vegan-friendly candle from the lovely folks over at Newshome. Part of my new routine is to engage in more relaxation and mindfulness, and a lavender scented candle really is just the ticket. 💜🕯
