Ahoy, hello! My name is Jenny. I am a thirty-something human female from Manchester in the north of England. I enjoy rainy days and sad songs, custard donuts and salt & pepper chips and beer, lentil dhal and fried okra, X-Files and Twin Peaks, fierce fat heroines and mental health advocates, dogs and cats and otters and a very special beirdo. To paraphrase Sylvia Plath: "I blog because there is a voice within me that insists on writing lots of ridiculous chuff".

A few weeks back, the founder of kihoutei organic skincare contacted me and asked if I’d like to try one of their bespoke facial serums. These days I’m a facial-oil-at-bedtime convert. Even though I have oily skin, I find that as I creep closer to 40, my skin really appreciates some nourishment overnight. The very best part was that kihoutei‘s profits go entirely to charities and causes in the UK and Zimbabwe, and particularly to those that empower girls and women (menstrual health, scholarships, economic empowerment).

I received this product in exchange for writing a review on the blog, however, all the thoughts and opinions expressed in this blog post are 100% mine!

When you order via the kihoutei site, you give them the information they need to craft your custom skincare products – like your age, skin type, whether you smoke, what you want from your skincare, as well as choosing the cause(s) you want to support… And then a custom creation is on its way to you in fully recycled packaging.

I’ve been using my bespoke blend for about 3 weeks now and can report that my skin is very happy indeed about it. The scent is slightly woody (as per my stated preference) and not at all overpowering. I use a small amount before bed every night after washing my face with my Lush Fresh Farmacy bar. It’s rich and nourishing and my skin (which can occasionally protest when exposed to new/difference products) hasn’t complained one bit.

I am so flipping on side with what kihoutei is doing. Their products are all entirely vegan and organic, ethically made, and they now offer cleansers and toners as well as serums/oils. What’s more, given that you receive a product entirely bespoke to your skin type and preferences (!!) they are absolutely worth the money you spend and support a number of really excellent causes. Gambinga is the ‘brains’ behind kihoutei. He is an immigrant who has experienced the asylum process in the UK, and who also chooses to support UK charities that help asylum seekers, immigrants, and homeless people.

The absolutely amazing humans at kihoutei have offered to run a giveaway with me! You can win a bespoke, organic and vegan skincare set that includes

🌿 1 x cleanser

🌿 1 x toner

🌿 1 x face serum
