Fronds, I know, long time no blog, but I’m here to tell you a little bit about Follow Your Heart products before I get entirely back into the swing of blogging. I’ve actually been a fan for quite a while, and FYH’s mayo is my mayo of choice (particularly given the bully boy tactics of brands like Hellmann’s). These days, the Follow Your Heart jars proudly let you know that their products are produced using solar power, which is very cool and just all round very excellent. FYH makes a huge array of dairy/egg alternative products these days: cheese, Veganaise, yoghurts, Vegan Egg, salad dressings, sour cream, and more.
Follow Your Heart is the first plant-based manufacturing facility in the U.S. to achieve Gold Level Zero Waste Certification by Green Business Certification Incorporated. Since 2016, it has diverted over 97% of its waste from landfills through recycling, composting, reduction, or reuse. This is the model that all large-scale manufacturers should be following!
The kind folks at FYH offered to send me a few products to try out and I was super happy to receive a jar of their sriracha Veganaise, a parmesan/hard grated cheese style alternative, and a sample of their pepperjack cheeze slices.
I knew that first on the list had to be a spaghetti bolognese in order to make good use of the parmesan style ‘shreds’…..
Parmesan was always on the table for our spaghetti when I was a ween, so this was a very welcome addition to the cupboard for me. I love me a sprinkle of nooch as much as the next vegan, but if you’re feeling extra fancy (or have guests over for dinner) then this is a perfect pasta topping.
Next, I decided to brave a sriracha/chilli double hit, and picked up some M&S Plant Kitchen burgers and ciabatta buns for an extra spicy burger dinner.
As I mentioned above, FYH is absolutely my mayo of choice these days, not least because they have a pretty extensive range for you to choose from. Personally I am a huge fan of a Veganaise slaw made with shredded red and white cabbage and a sizeable dollop each of sriracha and regular mayo. I’m also a lover of a dilly potato salad made using boiled new potatoes, chopped dill pickles, and again a sizeable dollop of FYH’s regular mayo. It’s also fantastic for dipping hot potato wedges or fries. If you’re stuck for recipe ideas then check out the FYH website for inspiration!
