A gift guide for vegan killjoys, queers, fatties, & weirdos, 2017 (Pt 1)

Ahoy and hallo friends, and a happy almost-December to you. Life has been tossing me helplessly about in recent weeks, leaving me struggling to keep on top of the most -basic- of commitments and really rather looking forward to the festive break from work. Mr J-M and I are booked into a lochside forest cabin with hot tub, wood burner, and plenty of peace and quiet during the week before Christmas proper and I cannot ruddy WAIT. Home is upside down and covered in plasterer’s dust as we are midway through a full bathroom rip-out and refit. Or just fit? It’s a flipping nightmare is what it is. Dreams of gloss white subway tiles and botanical shower curtains can only take one so far. Those dreams cannot replace a bathroom door, for instance , or protect modesty in the same way that a shower curtain emblazoned with SALLE DE BAIN can do if hooked onto nails above a door frame.

Mmmm, cosy, yes?

But the point of this particular overdue blog post is to provide my own rather more unusual contribution to the capitalist frenzy that is The Gift Guide.

Folks, the festive season should be what you make it. It should involve doing what makes you happy, whether that’s chestnuts roasting on an open fire, blubbing over Yes, Virginia, spending time with family and/or friends over food and drink and other indulgences, or sitting alone in your front room revelling in the Scrooge-ness of it all (or any combination thereof). And so, friends, if gift giving and/or receiving makes you happy, then read on for Jenny’s 2017 gift guide for vegan killjoys, queers, fatties, & weirdos.

This here gift guide does exactly what it says on the tin, and I’ve included links to shops that have lots of other lovely items for sale. I’ve indicated shops not based in the UK.

Every Christmas I always give a shout-out to my favourite online Lush alternative, The Dirty Vegans. Everything in their shop is vegan (even the owners!) and they also sell beautiful cards by the lovely Emily of Suitable For Vegans.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to link you to a couple of other round-ups that are worth your time:

And how about some festive recipes to include in your vegan menu plan?

Whilst life has had me feeling pretty defeated lately, I do hope to bring y’all some super festive posts and beautiful Scottish scenery throughout December. I plan on doing a lot of nesting, crafting, baking, and snoozing. Some of my very favourite things. I am, after all, an adult human hybrid of toddler and hibernating hedgehog. My wonderful friends and I have our festive crafternoon booked in, and frankly, my blog friends, 4pm on December 15th simply cannot come soon enough.

Your holiday escape sounds lovely (lochly?) — I hope it’s restful! And thanks for this list. The Dirty Vegans shop is new to me; if their shipping to the US is reasonable, I may have to drop a little coin here!

Lochly will do for me! I HIGHLY recommend the satsuma body scrub from The Dirty Vegans. Worth ordering about 5 in at any one time, to be honest 😀
